One of our clients are looking for a Commercial Director to join their team due to growth.
THE ROLE
In their company, connectivity with their clients has never been so important. As the company continues to support all the sectors across the challenges of inflation, supply chain, sustainability and growth, it’s also important that they look for ways to make it easier, simpler and more effective to work in collaboration together.
This is an exciting, pivotal and commercially focused senior role sitting at the centre of the company.
The Commercial Management team, which also incorporates Commercial Operations/the Client experience team and Culinary Solutions comprising of the Ingredient/Recipe/APL/Menu Management team and the Nutrition team.
The Commercial Directors are responsible for one or more of the companies’ core sectors, sitting alongside senior sector focused colleagues on the sector executive team. They will be responsible for delivering against a jointly agreed set of KPIs designed to help the sector achieve its strategic priorities for the current financial year and beyond and to help them achieve its procurement purpose.
The role helps to shape the strategic supply chain requirements of the sector, working with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery. Interfacing with the sector executive team, the Commercial Director will hold the wider functions within the company and Suppliers to account on delivery and the development required to meet these needs.
The Commercial Director will also play a key role in the delivery of UK-wide and sector specific critical projects as required, either as commercial lead or in support of a colleague.

Key skills, knowledge and experience required:
•Strong decision maker, with great commercial acumen and the ability to calmly weigh up
options in a constantly changing and sometimes ambiguous business environment
•Strong background in non-food, facilities management is desireable
•Resilient leader who works well under pressure
•Proven experience of guiding others to resolve complex issues (ideally across the supply chain), influencing cross functional teams to deliver business process improvement and desired outcomes
•An infectious “Can Do” attitude and strong interpersonal skills
•A great influencer who is comfortable engaging and where appropriate, challenging senior
stakeholders, winning ‘hearts and minds’ and able to hold people to account
•Leads teams and projects with broad reach and across multiple complex workstreams
•Previous experience identifying internal and external issues with ability to shape, implement and deliver a strategy to solve these business issues
•Proven track record of delivering projects and change across complex organisations
•Ability to analyse and interpret data to help inform decisions and to influence stakeholders
•Comfortable working in a pressurised, fast paced and deadline driven environment
•Ability to effectively plan and manage multiple workstreams to a project timeline

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Direct the commercial activity with 4 key focus areas, underpinned by consistent ways of working
across the Compass Commercial Management team:
Joint Business Plan (JBP)
As a member of the Sector Executive/Senior Leadership Team define and agree a joint commercial strategy, as agreed with Sector MD, which supports the sector strategic priorities and addresses the key sector opportunities and challenges
Drive the delivery of both strategic and tactical commercial projects, track progress and drive execution of the JBP to agreed timescales
Drive Sector requirements for food, retail and non-food/service innovation, working with wider company teams to deliver supplier innovation as part of the joint commercial strategy
Actively support the sector growth agenda
Compliance and Optimisation
Understand the Sector business structure to identify strategies for commercial
improvement (e.g. cost structure, pence per meal, consumer pricing)
Deliver commercial improvement within Sector through ensuring a jointly agreed vendor
and product range (across food, beverage and non-food)
Drive, measure and maximise compliance to achieve agreed KPI’s
Manage the data and insight requirements required to support supply chain and cost of
goods improvement
Purchasing Income Opportunities
Identify and drive opportunities to generate additional purchasing income
Understand and drive key company projects from inception to delivery
Inflation and Cost Control
In conjunction with Sector Finance Director, understand and manage the impact of budgeted vs. forecasted and actual inflation
Work with company & Sector teams to identify and implement opportunities to manage cost of goods and mitigate inflation
Ensure collateral and toolkit is in place to support client conversations
